1. India Requires Skill Development to Compete in the Textile Race: Ramraj Cotton Chairman KR Nagarajan
The political instability in
Bangladesh has presented a unique opportunity for Indian textile companies, but
significant challenges remain. According to KR Nagarajan, Founder and Chairman
of Ramraj Cotton, the Indian textile sector must prioritize skill development
to capitalize on these emerging opportunities. In his interview with Business
Line, Nagarajan emphasized that while automation has revolutionized several
processes such as spinning, weaving, and dyeing, garment production still
heavily relies on human expertise.
He highlighted that
Tiruppur's textile exports reached ₹30,000 crore last year, and doubling this
figure will require bridging the skills gap. The dependence on a migrant
workforce without adequate training is creating challenges in scaling up
production efficiently. Nagarajan advocates for intensive talent development to
meet the growing demand in the industry.
2. Major Relief for Farmers:
Fadnavis Guarantees Above-MSP Prices for Cotton and Soybean
In a significant move
benefiting farmers, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
announced that cotton and soybean would be purchased at prices above the
Minimum Support Price (MSP) this season. Speaking in the presence of Prime
Minister Narendra Modi during an event in Wardha celebrating the first
anniversary of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme, Fadnavis assured farmers of fair
prices for their crops.
This decision comes ahead of
the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, aiming to support the livelihoods
of farmers in the region. Fadnavis also emphasized that the government has
taken further steps, such as free electricity for farmers and efforts to raise
the import duty on crude oil to benefit cotton and soybean prices in the
domestic market. Additionally, initiatives like the inauguration of the PM Mega
Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park in Amravati and the
Acharya Chanakya Skill Development Centre reflect the government’s commitment
to supporting the agricultural and textile sectors.
The PM Vishwakarma Scheme,
expected to benefit over 6.5 lakh families, aims to uplift traditional artisans
and small businesses, providing training and financial assistance to
marginalized communities.
