Introduction to Spinning:

The process of converting fiber into yarn is called as Spinning.

Objectives:

Blowroom:

• Opening: Open the material into very fine tufts
• Cleaning: Eliminate most of the impurities.
• Mixing and Blending: Provide a good blend of two different fibers.
• Lap or Flocks formation: To form sheet of fiber with uniform weight and width called lap or transfer the fibers in open form to card through chute feed.

Input- Fibers   Output- Lap/Fibers in chute feed system

Carding:

• Opening into individual fibers: To open the tuft of fibers into individual fibers.
• Elimination of Impurities: To remove remaining trash particles from the material.
• Elimination of Dust
• Disentangling Neps: To remove neps from the fibers.
• Sliver Formation: Formation of Uniform strand i.e Sliver.

Input- Lap/Fibers from Chute Feed   Output- Carded Sliver

Drawframe:

• Equalizing: To improve the evenness over short, medium and long term in the sliver.
• Parallelizing: To arrange the fibers parallelly in the sliver strand by drafting.
• Blending: Blending of sliver of two different materials can be achieved at Drawframe.
• Dust Removal

Speed Frame:

• Attenuation of Sliver: Drafting of the sliver strand.
• Insert twist & Roving Formation: To insert small amount of twist so to hold the strand of fibers together.
• Winding on bobbin: To wind the twisted roving strand into a bobbin.

Input- Drawn Sliver   Output- Roving

Ring Frame:

• Drafting: To draw the roving to the specified degree of fineness.
• Twisting: To impart sufficient twist to the emerging strand of fibres to form a continuous length of yarn
• Winding: To finish up the small stuff into convenient package called as bobbin.

Input- Roving   Output- Yarn

Comber:

• Removal of Short Fibers: To remove short fibers of pre-determined length.
• Impurities removal from lap: Remove impurities from comber lap.
• Sliver formation: To produce a consistent sliver of required per unit length.

Note: Input and output except comber are for carded yarn.
