Two for One Twister and Yarn Waxing

As the name suggest, during T.F.O there are two turns inserted for one turn of twisting element. In Olden days, two yarns were transferred initially on to doubler winder and this was used as feed package for T.F.O. In the latest system two smaller packages are mounted one above the other and are withdrawn simultaneously.

General features of T.F.O machine:
To understand the features of the machine refer the following diagram.
Textile Sphere Passage through TFO

  • In the compartment, the yarn from the double wound stationary supply package is kept.
  • The yarn is then withdrawn from the package and it is guided around guide ‘A’ which is mounted on a freely rotating arm.
  • The yarn after passing through the guide ‘A’ is then led through the hollow rotating spindle which has an outlet ‘D’ at the bottom.
  • The yarn coming out from this outlet hole is passed between the two balloon separators ‘B’ and ‘C’ and is taken to the yarn take up rollers. Finally, he yarn is wound on the winding package either a cheese or cone.
  • In case, if the end breaks or the supply package gets exhausted, the take up package and the spindle both are stopped by an electrical stop motion.
  • A provision is made to control the yarn tension in ballooning zone and the winding head.
  • The yarn takes off from the package and is guided around A on to the spindle and further, when it comes through the outlet D. Thus, the rotation of the spindle causes the freely rotating guide to rotate the yarn element E at the top.
  • For each spindle rotation, therefore, one twisting turn is introduced at the top. Similarly, the yarn balloon between yarn outlet ‘D’ and take up rollers is also rotated due to rotation of the spindle at the same time and in the same direction. This inserts one ore twist in the balloon.
  • Thus, two twists are inserted at two stages.
  • If the yarn tension is controlled this can be used for wide range of count. The spindle speed is about 12,000 to 14,000 r.p.m
  • The machine may contain waxing or lubricating device.

Yarn Waxing:
The main objective of yarn waxing is to reduce kinetic friction especially for knitted fabrics, yarn waxing helps in reducing this friction. It also makes the yarn more uniform. Paraffix wax is popularly used for this purpose.

Following are the advantages of waxing yarn:
  • It results in fewer yarn breakages
  • There is less scraping of yarn thus producing less fly waste
  • Due to low uniform tension a more uniform fabric is obtained
